ABSTRACT

Mumbai is a city that has proven to be highly resilient in the face of tough spatial, social, economic and governance challenges. As a globalizing megacity, Mumbai presents an interesting case with respect to the contemporary issue of urban resilience. The city’s resilience is readable in its space: it is closely tied to the way the city imagines, uses and transforms space. Taking up the case of Mumbai, including its metropolitan region, this chapter investigates the spatial dimension of its urban resilience; we examine how this resilience is reflected in the city’s spaces.
