ABSTRACT

Japan’s space activities, since 2008, are in the midst of the greatest transformation since the beginnings of the Japanese space program in the mid-1950s. The new Japanese Basic Space Law was passed by the Japanese parliament in May 2008 and enforced in August of the same year. According to the Basic Space Law, the new Strategic Headquarters for Space Policy and the new Minister of State for Space Policy were established in the Cabinet of the Prime Minister. In June 2009, the Strategic Headquarters announced the new Japanese Basic Plan for Space Policy.
