ABSTRACT
This chapter considers Russia’s energy relations with Northeast (NE) Asia and beyond to the wider Asia-Pacific region. Japan, China, and South Korea are the key drivers in the region because they need new sources of energy and Russia could be the supplier.1 Like the other chapters in this book, this one looks at relations between the Russian state and Russian business and the behavior of the two abroad. In addition, it adds a new player by considering the role of foreign energy companies working in Russia, looking as well at their relationship to the Russian state and Russian business.
