ABSTRACT
Genetic effects are thought to play a causal role in susceptibility to many developmental disorders. However, this genetic contribution is expected to be complex in nature and involve interactions between multiple genetic and environmental factors. In the past decade, our understanding of the nature of these genetic factors has increased greatly. Genetic risk variants have been identified for several developmental disorders providing us with a window into the molecular basis of these disorders.
