ABSTRACT

In this rapid finale of the twentieth century, labour finds itself at the epicentre of seismic events that shake the constitutional order. But it is also held upright by forces that surpass the binary conflict between capital and labour that lay at the origins of the compromise inscribed in the base of the social constitution of the post-war period. These forces spring forth from new conflicts of interest, add other dimensions to collective life, and place into play values formerly outside the sphere of production.
