Morocco: the reinvention of an authoritarian system 1

One of the main questions posed by academic literature about Morocco is the extent to which the country has remained anchored to dated authoritarian political structures and rooted in a traditional culture synonym of political immobilism; and to what extent its future, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, might be similar to that of the first years of independence.
