ABSTRACT
Engle (1977) first articulated the biopsychosocial model in the prominent journal Science. In addition to biological aspects of an illness, Engle invited clinicians to consider its cultural, social, and psychological elements, urging physicians to listen to patients’ stories in addition to taking a thorough medical history.
