ABSTRACT
Having attended a workshop to discuss draft chapters for this volume held in April 2012 at the University of Kent, it came as no surprise to find that the final versions comprise a fascinating collection. They demonstrate the benefits of interdisciplinary engagement, and of seeking to make insightful cross-cultural comparisons. These are both projects that are frequently upheld as aims of excellent scholarship, but are difficult to genuinely achieve in practice. This book has managed to do these things admirably.
