ABSTRACT
One of our closest relatives — the chimpanzee — can bend steel wire to make a tool to dig out food from inside a narrow hole. Being able to make a simple tool is a good complement when gathering food for the chimpanzee and a few other species — for example, certain crows. This ability has been decisive for the development of our own species, Homo sapiens.
