ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the invasion of iPads into K–12 education with a specific focus on English teaching and learning. A discussion of definitions and conceptualizations of literacy as well as the role of technology in encouraging literate practices follows an overview of iPads and apps. National standards and policy documents are identified and positioned as support for fostering contemporary literate practices through meaningful integration of technology tools such as the iPad. The chapter ends with two lists: (1) websites focused on meaningful technology integration, and (2) apps that support English teaching and learning.
