ABSTRACT

Academic achievement batteries are necessary to assess the specific skills of students who have learning difficulties and those who are suspected of having specific learning disabilities (SLD). According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA, 2004), SLD may manifest in one or more academic areas, including basic reading skills, reading fluency, reading comprehension, math calculation, math problem solving, written expression, listening comprehension, and oral expression. Given the importance of understanding academic skill acquisition and development in students who struggle in the learning process, it is necessary to select instruments carefully based on reason for referral, academic area(s) of concern, the appropriateness of the instrument given the student’s developmental level, and the psychometric integrity of the battery.
