ABSTRACT
Asking why a society should have special education raises both narrower practical questions and broader social questions. On the broader dimension, the question might provoke some to speak about concerns regarding equity: Why should some children receive education and others not? What are the economic and political benefits of having special education? Does society benefit in some ways from educating individuals with disabilities?
