ABSTRACT

This chapter describes and analyzes the history of the new transatlanticism within the context of broader transatlantic relations. The many dimensions of the new transatlanticism are explained, including the nature of current challenges such as the Asian pivot and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Despite sometimes divergent external foreign policy goals, the transatlantic relationship firmly endures, but much of the future of transatlantic relations will be dependent upon Europe’s ability to “get its own policy act together.”
