ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes transatlantic foreign policy. The first section analyzes the evolution of transatlantic relations before Obama. The second section explores Obama’s aspirations and vision of foreign policy and discusses how these were eventually realized. The third section covers transatlantic foreign policy cooperation in the years 2009–2013. Findings include: continuity in foreign policy between the Bush and Obama Administrations with respect to transatlantic foreign policy; the continued importance of the EU being able to speak with one voice and commit to greater pooling of resources; and emphasize the further development of soft power strategies.
