ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on reflections drawing on a sustained academic engagement with the evaluation of policies and approximately ten different programmes of urban regeneration in the 1990s and 2000s based at the Centre for Urban and Community Research, Goldsmiths University of London. It draws more explicitly on three exemplifications of some of these themes that reflect on personal experience from 1994 to 2006 and of six years as chair of urban regeneration in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH), five years as leader of the same borough and seven years as chair of the regeneration programme of the Thames Gateway London Partnership.
