ABSTRACT

Effective risk management includes communication between stakeholders and affected citizens, so as to prioritize risks and strategies for reducing them. As citizens of a democratic society, individuals may face complex decisions about whether or not to accept the risks of emerging technologies, in order to obtain their benefit. Making informed decisions about risk management requires sufficient understanding of the options that are available, as well as their associated risks, costs, and benefits. To facilitate their decisions, people may turn to scientific domain experts for decision-relevant information.
