ABSTRACT

Parents of infants have recently been confronted with labels indicating that their purchases of baby bottles, teethers or sippy cups are now ‘Bisphenol A-free’. What does this imply? These labels suggest that the presence of Bisphenol A (BPA) poses a risk of which consumers, most likely, were unaware. Should parents seek information on this BPA-free label? The product instructions do not elaborate on its meaning or rationale. Searching online, however, would expose a wealth of information about the possible risks and uncertainties surrounding products containing BPA. It is a sensitive topic of debate as such products are intended for one of the most vulnerable groups within society: children under the age of three. 1
