ABSTRACT

The first task in assessment is to establish rapport between you and the client/patient; it is difficult to obtain meaningful data unless rapport is established first. Fischer (Fischer, 1985/1994) defines rapport this way: “I propose that rapport be regarded as a relationship in which client and assessor have found that they share certain understandings that serve as common ground for joint, give-and-take, exploration of the client’s situations and opinion” (p. 300).
