ABSTRACT

In this chapter we feature the work of teachers in Oaxaca, Mexico, who drew on experiences of the 2006 repression and mobilization (the Movimiento) to make their school more accessible by opening doors to all rooms, engaging in mural projects, and inventing student-teacher negotiated scheduling. Alterations to time and space routines helped teachers and students fortify horizontal relationships in school. Creating this culture became more imperative after the violent repression against the public during the second half of 2006.
