ABSTRACT

Marx and Vygotsky. These two researchers are often named together in accounts about cultural-historical research. How might one understand the relationship between their scientific projects? Given that many different relationships between Marx and Vygotsky might potentially be explored, a principled strategy is needed to focus the discussion on the thematic interest of the present volume — namely to expand and enrich contemporary research grounded in or motivated by ‘Vygotskian theory’. Given that Marx's ideas are already viewed as having some relation to Vygotsky's, the interest in enrichment or expansion circles back on itself to the initial question of how to understand their relationship.
