ABSTRACT

A study of the implementation of teacher education requirements in Israel shows a varied picture. While adhering to the official requirements, the different colleges have developed a mosaic of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) models. Three of these models will be presented in detail in this chapter: (1) the development and implementation of a mandatory course during ITT on the topic of ‘Diversity in Education’; (2) the initiation of a mandatory ITT unit that includes introductory courses covering several areas of special educational needs (SEN); and (3) the creation of a unified ITT practicum which brings together students in the special education and elementary school education training programs.
