ABSTRACT

As educators we endeavor to create learning environments that are engaging, aligned with learning outcomes and, above all, dynamic. As outlined in the introduction, the millennial generation has posed numerous pedagogical challenges for educators. For them, the traditional mode of ‘chalk and talk’ teaching may be seen as outdated and not fit for purpose—these students can, after all, access encyclopedic information instantaneously. Changing learning styles and the technological revolution have led to fundamental changes in how students learn, and their levels of engagement differ from earlier generations. Students can now access learning material for free, remotely and at their own discretion through the web.
