ABSTRACT
Discussion of the relationship between legitimacy and compliance is normally concerned with how those subject to the law perceive the legitimacy of legal institutions and processes and how this affects their approach to compliance (Tyler, 2006). This chapter reverses that focus, asking questions about the legitimacy of the approaches to compliance taken by those subject to the law.
