ABSTRACT

The practices of induction are situated within a context of political and educational metapractices (see chapter 14 in this book). This is one of the reasons why models of induction cannot be directly transferred from one educational and political system to another. No model of mentoring as such can be haphazardly transferred elsewhere, as that would require transferring an entire mindset and operating culture. In the European Union there seems to be a growing trend to disseminate rather similar practices of teacher induction throughout Europe. These practices are transplanted from one national context to another through EU projects. It is perhaps questionable whether national contexts and characteristics are always appropriately taken into account.
