ABSTRACT

A new approach to economics emerged in France in the 1980s known variously as “Intersubjectivist Economics” and “the Economics of Conventions”. Led by Jean-Pierre Dupuy and André Orléan from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, and by Laurent Thévenot from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), this group presented their research-agenda in a special issue of the Revue Economique devoted to “l’économie des conventions” (March 1989). Their work has been introduced to the English-speaking world by P. Wagner (1994) and Edward Fullbrook (1996; 1997; 1998).
