ABSTRACT

China is a great oriental nation representing thousands of years of historical and cultural heritage. Due to the oriental culture, ideographic language and enduring social and economic backwardness, the developed western countries have long seen China as a distant and mysterious nation in the east. Today, the nation of the ‘sleeping lion’, as Napoleon said, has experienced fundamental social changes brought about by the economic reforms. The ‘sleeping lion’ seems to have woken up, causing great shock to the world. People are wondering what this really means for the existing world political and economic systems, and what China is like, and we need to understand Chinese society and the China Experience.
