ABSTRACT

This book addresses the range of aspects that early childhood educators (ECE) need to know about reflection and reflective practice. It aims to support these practitioners in their reflective practice in their everyday work and study and in the wider political context. There continue to be ongoing reforms in early childhood care and education (ECCE) social policy that affect all aspects of young children’s and their families’ lives and therefore the remit of early years educators. Policy decisions are being undertaken at a rapid pace and there is a need for those working in ECCE to consolidate their knowledge and practice, building on what they already know. Early childhood educators need to continue to develop their professionalism and professional knowledge to meet the demands of change. The book takes a fresh look at a breadth of issues relating to ECCE, drawing on policy, knowledge and practice related to: (1) reflective practice theory and research; (2) policy, professionals, children and families; (3) curriculum and pedagogy; (4) social policy and contemporary issues; and (5) continuing professional development and reflective practice.
