ABSTRACT
The present chapter is devoted to analyzing the economic disparity and social inequality in Latin America (LA) and Europe (EU). Our assumption is that these are central issues to be addressed in any development process. Starting from a notion of equality that considers more than one economic variable besides income as the equalisandum, our primary concern is to describe two quite different situations in those macro-regions of the world with a special emphasis on the problem of equality.
