ABSTRACT

Traditionally, school decision-making is based on control of tools and resources. Student A uses school resources, in the school building, during school hours, monitored by school personnel, and so on. Today, however, our students are blogging, videoconferencing, file sharing, collaborating—creating day and night, at home, at school, in the car (hopefully not when driving!). Teachers communicate and collaborate with students in asynchronous channels such as e-mail or learning management systems. Those of us in IT departments are on call 24/7.
