ABSTRACT

The International Slavery Museum (ISM), part of National Museums Liverpool (NML), is located on the third floor of the Merseyside Maritime Museum on the Albert Dock in Liverpool. Due to the transatlantic slave trade being an international phenomenon with global consequences the word “international” rather than “national” was used in its title. ISM is the only British museum that comprehensively deals with this subject. Its scope extends beyond the transatlantic slave trade and encompasses other human rights and contemporary slavery-related issues.
