ABSTRACT

Jesus Christ, incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and so become human “born of a woman” (Gal. 4:4), re-established by his earthly life equality between man and woman, both being created “in the image and likeness” of God (Gen. 1:26, Mark 10:6, Matt. 19:4). His teaching, centered on the concepts of love (agapê) and faith (pistis), opens the way to a real fraternity between men and women, to the great scandal of Jewish society in which it evolved. This teaching constitutes one of the most revolutionary aspects of Christianity. Its ontological foundation is based on the notion of renewal (anakainisis) of the altered image. Accomplished by Christ’s free sacrifice, death, and resurrection, this renewal is valid for all of humanity and, consequently, for both sexes.
