ABSTRACT

Orthodox Christianity traces its history with mental health to the time of Jesus Christ who was renowned for “healing every disease and sickness” (Matt. 9:35). Founded squarely on the Hebraic holistic tradition, healing in Eastern Orthodoxy integrates mental health within its overall understanding of dynamic personhood concerning the interdependence of body, mind, and soul. Within this understanding, Orthodox Christianity approaches healing with both natural and supernatural methods for restoring, curing, and making humanity whole.
