ABSTRACT

This chapter will describe the background to crisis resolution teams in mental health, the body of evidence available to support their continued use, their core characteristics and the potential for development and improvements to this type of care. Definitions of home treatment have been inconsistent, as has the nomenclature of the services, which are known varyingly as ‘crisis resolution teams’, ‘crisis teams’, ‘home treatment’ teams and ‘crisis assessment and treatment’ teams. For ease and consistency, the services will be referred to in this chapter as crisis resolution teams (CRTs).
