ABSTRACT

In recent years, Egypt has made some progress towards the Millennium Development Goals that target poverty reduction and achieving global and regional partnership for development (MDG 1 and 8) (UNDP, 2008). This chapter explores the main objectives of this book by first analysing how economic policy, in general, and trade policy, in particular, affect poverty directly (price mechanism) and indirectly (employment effect), and thus how these policies contribute to MDG 1; and, second, a discussion of Egypt’s regional trade agreements (RTAs) and their impact on achieving MDG 8.
