ABSTRACT

Much will depend on the type of museum and its remit and the resources that it has available.

Information for museum staff may be developed within the museum or from outside sources (see Figure 108.1). Whatever balance of information materials you develop in-house, it should reflect the priority needs of the museum and its staff. Some information can be assembled systematically within the museum at limited cost, for example by compiling files relating to suppliers of services and goods for different aspects of the museum’s operation and by developing lists of key websites. Other types of information may require regular financial outlays, for example for subscriptions to relevant professional publications and journals or the purchase of books and reference works.
