ABSTRACT

As we noted in Units 2-4, museums are of course not only about exhibitions and displays, which is a common misconception among groups and individuals wishing to set up new museums. Some modern museums are more concerned with ‘intangible heritage’ than with collections, and may be more like a theatre or community centre than a traditional museum. All museums are concerned with a wide range of interlocking functions, and the form of the museum building(s) must allow for an appropriate balance of functions.
