ABSTRACT

It is common sense that certain types of footwear are more difficult to move in than other types. For example, we all know from personal experience that heavy and inflexible shoes can be a struggle to walk in and lighter, more flexible shoes seem to ease the burden of walking or running. These obvious differences can express themselves as differences in the energy we require for movement. But there is much more than these obvious results to be revealed in reviewing the effects of footwear on the economy of movement.
