ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates some of the many tools that have been developed to help clinicians follow the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) clinical model and at the same time to match and fit families with whom they work. FFT is a systematic, evidenced-based, manual driven, family-based treatment program which is successful in treating a wide range of problems affecting youth and their families in a wide range of multi-ethnic, multicultural, and geographic contexts. In practice, FFT is a dynamic, highly interpersonal, relationally focused, and emotional therapeutic experience. FFT grew out of a need in communities, schools, and community-based treatment centers to serve a population of at-risk adolescents and families who were underserved, had few resources, and were perceived to be difficult to treat. In the late 1990s, FFT started to be widely implemented in community-based contexts. Measurement and evaluation have always played a central role in the development of the current FFT model.
