ABSTRACT

Assessment takes up a significant portion of time in many areas of primary, secondary, and tertiary education (and to a varying extent, in other areas such as work-based or lifelong learning). For students, exams/essays/course work/tests all dominate thoughts, fears, and triumphs as the years progress (indeed, a growing number of students focus not on the weekly subject teaching, but on the assessment itself); for staff, the designing, setting, validating, and marking of these fills evenings and weekends.
