ABSTRACT

This chapter examines pedagogy in relation to information and communications technology (ICT). There are two interrelated aspects of this endeavour: the use of ICT to support, enhance or transform learning and teaching; the more general effect that ICT, especially the internet and mobile technologies, is having on the modern world and how this affects pedagogy. The chapter discusses teachers' decision-making, the types of knowledge that are needed, categories of affordances and strategies for assessment for learning are equally important for online learning and teaching. According to Alexander the two facets of pedagogy are teaching methods and pupil organisation, which exist within a framework of educational practice containing seven interrelated aspects: content, context, pedagogy, management, children, society, and knowledge. Pedagogy is frequently depicted as being in a dynamic triangular causal relationship with the curriculum and assessment all of which are moderated by theories of learning.
