Policies and actions to promote low-carbon buildings

There is no globally accepted definition for low-carbon buildings. However, most would agree that low-carbon buildings are related to reducing fossil fuel consumption, increasing energy efficiency, and applying renewable energy, during a building’s life cycle, and that negative impacts on global climate due to construction activities are minimized. Recent zero-carbon building demonstration projects reveal that the building industry is exploring a way to reach the ultimate goal of developing truly low-carbon buildings.
