ABSTRACT

Once, the concept of choreography seemed quite straightforward. As a young dancer I thought it was simply ‘dance-making’ in which I was privileged to be the interpreter of the dance made for me or even with me. Later, as a young choreographer, a useful working definition was the creation and manipulation of movement in time and space. This was not to discard the integral contribution of sound, visuals and lighting as fundamental to the staging of most works, but it did not seem fundamental to the concept of choreography itself.
