ABSTRACT

As a teacher you may come across some issues or problems in your practice which cannot be solved simply. One part of your professional role will be to try different approaches to finding a solution, evaluating those approaches and using the results of that evaluation to inform and develop your practice. Systematic exploration of this kind is often termed ‘action research’. Action research is a methodology that aims to study a social situation in order to improve circumstances for the people within that context. Action research takes many forms, but the term always indicates cycles of systematic exploration designed to solve a problem or at least improve a situation in professional practice.
