ABSTRACT

There was a time, in the not-too-distant past, when the question of textile sustainability centred on water and oil, natural and synthetic. Essentially natural fibres were generally regarded as good, coming from renewable resources and capable of being recycled. Synthetics, on the other hand, have been seen as largely derived from oil, not a quickly renewable resource and more problematic to recycle. This viewpoint is changing and one of the main reasons is undoubtedly water.
