ABSTRACT
The central theme of this book is the recognition of limits to consumption behaviour and how these limits can be established using a combination of science and ethics to arrive at a ‘fair earth share’. This chapter examines the advantages and disadvantages of three governance frameworks that exhibit a potential to help society live within its fair earth share: command-and-control, community-scale management, and market-based.
