ABSTRACT

In order to wholly and holistically serve our military personnel, their families, and our military veterans in their ongoing sacrifices and transitions to home, communities must engage and build bridges among all Americans, both military and civilian. This rallying of relationship between military and civilian communities can be considered a “Circle of Healing” (Scurfield, 2006), which includes initiatives and partnerships established through public, private, non-profit, volunteer, corporate, veteran, and civic networking. This chapter illustrates the capacity of creative civilian programming, which can lead to local, statewide, national, and international partnerships to benefit the mental health and well-being of military personnel, veterans, their families and communities affected by war.
