ABSTRACT

This second selection continues my general conclusion that the analysts are plain wrong when they claim that they are trying to find a military strategy that allows continued arming without being provocative. At one point, I was willing to see the debate rather dismissively as being between the armers versus the disarmers. However, as I became more involved in the discussion, I began to take the notion of arms control more seriously. Once I had done that, I also began to consider the technological issues of disarmament. Anatol Rapoport and I tried to write an article for the Nation magazine called “The Armers and the Disarmers”; however, I was not happy with the direction the article was taking, which prompted me to write two separate articles on my own.
