ABSTRACT

In Greece, Olympic education was integrated into the education system at the end of the 1990s when our country was awarded the staging of the Olympic Games in 2004. It was the only educational programme that was implemented in practically all Greek public and private schools and systematically evaluated throughout its implementation. The purpose of this paper therefore will be: (a) to explore the applications, dimensions and scope of Olympic education within the educational process and, at the same time; (b) to examine its objectives and content and how it is implemented in the curriculum, within the framework of modern pedagogy; and (c) to raise the awareness of those responsible for education planning and policy.
