ABSTRACT

The specific interaction between foot and ball is the defining component of soccer. To date, related research has mainly focused on standardized kicking scenarios of stationary balls (Barfield, 1998; Kellis and Katis, 2007; Lees et al, 2010). Ball velocity as well as ball accuracy also depend on kicking technique (Levanon and Dapena, 1998; Nunome et al., 2002; Kristensen et al., 2005; Neilson and Jones, 2005; Sterzing et al., 2009a). Ball velocity of full instep kicks (Sterzing and Hennig, 2008) as well as ball accuracy of inner instep kicks (Hennig and Sterzing, 2010) were shown to be influenced by soccer footwear. These studies indicated that barefoot compared to shod kicking increased ball velocity but reduced ball accuracy.
