ABSTRACT

Whole-body three-dimensional (3D) photonic scanners for measuring the human body surface were initially developed for the clothing industry. However, they can now be used for multiple anthropometric measurements in athletes: body size, shape, circumference, volume and composition (Stewart, 2010). We applied this technology to Japanese elite soccer players from youth to professional. The first purpose of the study was to describe soccer-related anthropometry according to age and playing position. The second was to compare Japanese soccer players with soccer players from other countries and athletes in other sports.
